Thoughts and Updates

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Well, this experiment has been going since the last 7 days of 2008 and I’m not slowing down. I do have my slow times, and I do have my fast times, but overall my interest and excitement about this comic is steady and healthy. This has never really happened to me before. I always tend to burn out at some point. But so far, so good!

I guess this is to be expected though. This really is a sort of dream project for me. It’s 100% controlled and created by me, so I owe no one. I’m not crushed by deadlines or concerns over money. It’s just pure creative fun. I’m creating and exploring a world of my dreams. Isn’t that what gets most of us into doing comics in the first place?

So right now I’ve sketched and lettered my way into episode #51, ahead of the curve in terms of prep work. Just need to focus on putting the inks and colors to these and post them up.

One thing I am 98% certain of is that I will change the format very soon to mini-comic/manga, which is basically a 4.25″ x 5.5″ size. From the moment I conceived this series a couple of years back I wanted to create a mini-comic fantasy series and actually sell printed copies. That’s a secondary concern, but I don’t see any reason to not do it.

Naola’s Apartment

Low Streets District is adjacent to Palace Place, where the Palace of the Prince tops the city. She can easily see the Palace dome from her balcony.

Her apartment is on the top floor of her building. It isn’t large, but it is comfortable and private. Adventurers with any experience tend to make decent gold so she can afford better, but she’s a penny pincher. She’s saving her coins for better gear and better henchfolk.

Her apartment appears to be one large living area probably with a pantry or other storage space and a spacious balcony. Though she doesn’t like the idea of paying higher rent, she does think it would be a good idea to move somewhere she can actually practice archery without accidentally killing her neighbors.

Rin Rin’s Boots

49-panelWhat sort of goodies did Rin Rin Volar blow his earnings on this week? He’s a magic geek, you know. He can’t resist the newest arcane paraphernalia. But he’s got this degenerate side that enjoys wasting hard earned coin on the most frivolous short-term highs…like strange and exotic potions meant only to make you see pink squids dancing on the ceiling.

Episode #49 coming very soon…don’t miss it!

#51 on the Table

0051panelThe new episode is on the drawing table but I spent the weekend out of town and I doubt I’ll get a chance to finish it today.

Played some Dungeons & Dragons 4th ed yesterday…much fun! We basically just ran through a series of encounters, so it was heavy on the game and light on the RP but that’s cool because it helped me get a real good sense of the system. And we all know that combat is the centerpiece of D&D, not RP.

Rock on.
